Data Estate Implementation

July 2, 2024

Emergence Insurance partners with Seisma to define their corporate data architecture and implement their data estate on the Microsoft Azure Data & AI platform using Databricks.

Emergence is a cyber insurance underwriting agency, exclusively focused on providing flexible, innovative insurance solutions to help protect Australian businesses and families against cyber risks.

Since entering the Australian market nine years ago, Emergence has been dedicated to making cyber insurance better, easier and smarter. Their commitment to innovation, resilience, and unparalleled customer service has been awarded with numerous industry accolades, reflecting their position as a leader in the cyber insurance market.

Due to the rapid growth and regional expansion of the business, Emergence had organically grown its data and reporting services on disparate reporting solutions including excel and disparate Power BI environments.

This platform has had all the logic sitting in multiple places resulting in:

  • Data accuracy and integrity issues.
  • Long refresh times leading to business performance impact.

Data is a critical asset for Emergence, however the legacy architecture made it difficult to fully utilise the value of data within the organisation.

Re-architecting the solution

Seisma's solution was to re-architect the solution from the ground up, utilising Azure Databricks and Azure Data Factory to streamline the ingestion, processing and visualisation of the organisations data. This solution significantly improved the processing and availability of performance data and provided Emergence with a best of breed solution that meets Emergence’s needs today and into the future.

“Emergence now has a number of Power BI dashboards, an example of one of the dashboards is a key customer renewal report, this gives account managers insights into upcoming renewals, allowing these to be processed in a timely manner, leading to increased service levels for their clients. We are excited to see what the next phase will be, with talks about using GenAI to make efficiencies within the business.” - Charlotte Rowe, Account Manager, Seisma.

The partnership

Emergence Insurance engaged Seisma to suggest a modern, cloud-based architecture for their analytics. The key success criteria were a platform that:

  • Would grow with the business.
  • Was a highly secure platform.
  • Provide a positive experience for the business.

To meet the requirements of the business and IT, Seisma recommended an architecture based on Microsoft Azure using Databricks as the datalake.
